From the heart of Chianti Classico comes “I Terzieri”

CELEBRATING 60 YEARS OF GEOGRAPHIC CHIANTI FARMERS,
THE PICCINI FAMILY UNVEILS A PREVIEW OF THE PRESTIGIOUS TERZIERI LINE, A TRIBUTE
TO THE WINE HERITAGE OF THE HISTORIC COMMUNES OF CHIANTI CLASSICO: RADDA, GAIOLE AND CASTELLINA.

Castellina in Chianti, Sept. 22 – Three iconic wines, representative of one of the country’s most vocated territories: Chianti Classico. The Piccini family unveils a preview of the prestigious I Terzieri line to pay homage to the 60th anniversary of the Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico: Terziere di Tramontano, Terziere di Levante and Terziere di Ponente. These wines express the immense winemaking heritage of the three historic communes of Chianti Classico: Radda, Gaiole and Castellina, the “Terzieri” according to the ancient medieval definition.

“Our territory is our history,” comments Mario Piccini, CEO of Piccini 1882 and the Geografico, “and to celebrate such an important anniversary for us, we have decided to give all wine lovers and enthusiasts three new Chianti Classico labels: these are different and precious shades of Sangiovese, which are distinctly and exclusively found in the historic municipalities of Chianti Classico, namely Radda, Gaiole and Castellina. It was in these towns that the Lega del Chianti was born at the end of the 1300s, to which we still owe the choice of the Black Rooster, the symbol of our wine par excellence. The Terzieri represent an ambitious project that aims to tell the story of our land and the centuries of history that have made it unique in the Italian wine scene. Today, the use of micro winemaking techniques and non-invasive oenological practices allows Sangiovese to express its opulent soul, while respecting the profound peculiarities of the three different vineyards, an authentic expression of the relative commune of origin. Since Piccini 1882 linked its history to that of Geografico, in 2018, we have always acted with the aim of enhancing our territory even more: this premium line was therefore created to strengthen the bond with the ancient lands of Chianti Classico. A call to tradition, in memory of the three Terzieri and their respective grape varieties.”

Terziere of Tramontano

Terziere di Tramontano is a Chianti Classico DOCG, vintage 2019, born from Sangiovese grapes growing on the hills around Radda in Chianti, 480 meters above sea level, exposed along the southern slope. Radda represents the clearest and most crystal-clear expression of high altitude Chianti Classico: in fact, the clayey soils of these slopes, enriched by an abundant component of alberese, and the particular climatic conditions-with colder temperatures than in the other two Terzieri-allow the production of a Chianti of extremeelegance, with a delicious, vertical and fresh influenceamineral. A bewitching ruby color, Tramontano expresses sinuous fruity notes of currants and raspberries, joined by hints of black cherry and tobacco. The sip reveals great intensity, soon joined by a delicious savory note. The finish is long and spicy. Terziere di Tramontano rests 12 months in Slavonian barrels before being bottled.

Terziere di Levante

Terziere di Levante, Chianti Classico DOCG 2019, comes from Vertine, a delightful medieval village 350 meters above sea level perched on the hills that embrace Gaiole. The soil is clayey in nature and rich in marlstone, a particularly friable stone that releases valuable mineral elements into the soil, which are then found in the glass, along with the squeakier, stronger and spicier notes that make Gaiole’s Chianti Classico unmistakable. Indeed, Levante is a kaleidoscope of smells and flavors that characterize a wine that does not hide, but satisfies and seduces with its intimate sweetness: bright ruby in color, the nose offers scents of black cherry, berry fruits, currants and black pepper. The tannic texture gives a juicy and intense flavor, punctuated by the freshness of tamarind and gentle balsamic melodies. Terziere di Levante rests 12 months in medium toasted Allier barrels before bottling.

Terziere di Ponente

Chianti Classico DOCG 2019Terziere di Levante presents complex harmonies that owe their marked expressiveness to the vineyards that rise along the southern slope of Castellina in Chianti, in soil rich in clay and skeleton. Levante is a warm, ripe and vigorous wine that flaunts a unique elegance and sublime grace in its aromas-a Chianti that is remembered for its elegance, freshness and pleasantness to drink. Ruby in color with purple veins, Levante presents a fruity bouquet enhanced by notes of red fruits, strawberries and raspberries. The solemn floral acidity that characterizes the sip keeps the palate cool and dry. A seductive wine that is aged 12 months in medium toasted Allier barrels before reaching the bottle.
