Piccini goes green: initiatives and projects for a sustainable future

Piccini is committed to improving environmental sustainability through concrete initiatives such as the adoption of PET bottles, which reduce environmental impact due to their light weight. In addition, the company has obtained organic certification from “Q Certifications Srl” for several estates and continues to promote organic farming. Piccini has also obtained “Equalitas sustainable winery” certification for several estates, working with GEA FACTORY to draw up a “Zero Sustainability” report as a basis for future improvements. On the social responsibility front, the company supports the local area with local sports sponsorships and promotes the well-being of its employees through thoughtful company policies, including a health insurance policy and canteen.

Stakeholder relations: how are you making your relationship with suppliers more environmentally sustainable? E.g., lighter bottles? Recycling? Virtuous collaborations to be named?

We have recently begun to employ PET bottles. The initiative, undertaken initially at the input of a customer, has opened a path that we will continue to pursue. The PET bottle guarantees, in fact, a lower environmental impact than glass; the secret lies in its lightness, which allows the PET to weigh less on truck loads. For years now, we have been extremely sensitive a thisissue so much so that-unless specifically requested by customers-we have always pushed to use lightweight bottles.

“Organic certification”-who are you collaborating with? What body issues it? Steps already taken and steps planned for the future on this ?

Organic certification is given to us by Q Certifications Srl which carries out the inspections and retains the final say on the‘approval of the labels. Piccini side the factories involved and included in the certification are: Castellina in Chianti e Casole d’Elsa; Casa alla Terra and Gaiole for the Geographic. As for the circuit of estates, organic certification covers Valiano (Castelnuovo Berardenga), Regio Cantina (Venosa) and Torre Mora (Castiglione di Sicilia), which, unlike the brandmain brand, also include the agricultural componenta.

We have achieved certification “Equalitas sustainable winery” for the following sites: Casole d’Elsa, Gaiole in Chianti, Montalcino, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Venosa, and Castiglione di Sicilia, where periodically take place inspettiv visitse performed by CSQA. In collaboration with GEA FACTORY, we are drafting. the “Zero Sustainability” report which will allow us to take a snapshot of the current state ofi ouri establishmentsi. This will provide the starting point for further targeted interventions in eco-sustainability. As far as pertains to social responsibility, the company has been active for years on the front of commitment to its local area with numerous sponsorships at local entities – mainly sports activities. To assess the quality of our presence in the area, we distributed a questionnaire to all stakeholders, the results of which showed the goodness of our interventions.

On the employee side, over the past few years, we have undertaken a series of company policies that protect the welfare of the worker, while respecting the work ethica and national contracts. Our employees, in addition to enjoying cafeteria service and a health insurance policy, were able to express their opinion on the company climate through a questionnaire, which recorded positive results.
