Piccini 1882

Brunello di Montalcino: the King of Tuscan wines

The Piccini family has been active in the illustrious Brunello di Montalcino appellation since 2000. Our vineyards extend over 6 hectares in the Canapaccia area, located on the eastern side of Montalcino at an altitude of 300 meters. The soils here are mainly of sedimentary origin, with a medium texture and a strong presence of marl, clay schist and limestone, which ensure excellent drainage capacity.

This soil composition influences the character of our Brunello, resulting in a wine with good structure, elegant tannins and great aromatic complexity. Temperature swings, typical of the entire area, play a key role, especially during the critical ripening months, when the morning sun disperses the coolness of the night. Warm days and cool nights lengthen the growing cycle, giving the wine finesse and expressive depth.

Alongside the hectares we own, we also make use of a network of 35 loyal winemakers within the appellation. Maintaining the typical character of Sangiovese is our absolute goal. During the aging process, we focus on developing the complexity of the wines and softening the tannins, without ever overpowering the fruit component. For this reason, we choose to use oak barrels with volumes between 20 hl and 50 hl. Three principles govern the production activity of our winery: simplicity, balance and harmony-a philosophy that translates into respect and enhancement of Sangiovese.
