Castellina in Chianti, July X – The vacations are just around the corner and the sea is on the horizon: in the most beautiful season of the year, Piccini 1882 pays tribute to the winelovers of the Bel Paese with an elegant special screen-printed edition for two labels of the Collezione Oro, the premium line of the winery led by Mario Piccini.
Orvieto Classico DOC and Rosato Toscana IGT thus dress in the colors of summer and completely renew their labels to accompany, if only ideally, all wine lovers to the blue of the sea and the sweet sound of the waves. “This special screen-printed edition,” comments Mario Piccini, Managing Director of Piccini 1882, “is a small tribute that we are addressing to all winelovers, with the hope that they will finally be able to taste excellent and elegant wines in the company of their closest loved ones and friends. The labels are refined and produced through an ancient artisan technique that allowed an image to be imprinted on the most precious silk fabrics.
But above all, they evoke the lightheartedness of summer-a lightness of spirit that we have earned after the past difficult months and that we hope will brighten the lunches, dinners and aperitifs of us all.”
Over time, the screen printing technique has been perfected and used on a variety of media, including glass. The screen-printing process on a bottle starts with the creation of a special frame that traces the chosen design to be printed on the glass. Struck by a beam of light, the image of the frame anchors itself to the glass surface, remaining indelible by virtue of the particular nature of the colors used. This is an ancient process that technological innovation has been able to make sustainable by drastically decreasing the temperature required by the furnaces to fix the image, so as to ensure significant energy savings.
So all that remains is to get lost in thought and travel to the sea, if only with the mind, through Orvieto Classico DOC and Rosato Toscana IGT.
Orvieto Classico DOC was born from the collaboration between Mario Piccini and oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, a native of Orvieto’s lands. A wine that stands out for its complexity and fresh pleasantness, a noble expression of the territory. Produced from a blend of Grechetto, Procanico and Chardonnay, Orvieto Classico DOC is the result of a careful selection of the best Grechetto clones. Fine and elegant, it is a wine with a straw-yellow color, which denotes a delicate and complex bouquet on the nose, with floral notes and yellow-fleshed fruit. The palate reveals its softness and aromatic intensity; ripe fruit, with exotic hints, finds support in an almost unexpected freshness and savoriness.
Orvieto Classico DOC is perfect for any summer dinner to accompany appetizers, vegetable-based risottos, white meats and fish.
Rosato Toscana IGT is a fresh and fragrant wine that Piccini 1882 dedicates to younger winelovers. The wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Malvasia that encompasses the multitude of soils and climates found in Tuscany, a combination that from the coastal area mitigated by sea breezes reaches the large temperature ranges typical of the Chianti mountains. The Rosato is delicate, with a soft pink color obtained by means of a brief maceration of the must on the skins. The palate shows its freshness well balanced by notes of ripe red fruit, with an intense and persistent finish.
Rosato Toscana IGT is the wine of summer: excellent with aperitifs, appetizers, fish, white meats in general.
