Piccini 1882

The journey begins

FIRST GENERATION

In 1882, young Angiolo Piccini made the bold decision to leave his past behind and pursue his dream: to establish a winery. Thus began, in Poggibonsi, nestled among the Chianti hills, an adventure that would span five generations. Within a few years, the young winery began to enjoy its first successes, thanks largely to Angiolo’s entrepreneurial spirit. Meanwhile, this corner of Tuscany was experiencing an unprecedented period of growth and development. A whole world revolved around wine, shaping the social and economic fabric of the Chianti villages.
By the time of his success, in 1925, Angiolo passed the company on to his son Mario, marking the beginning of Piccini as a family affair.

The Golden Age

SECOND GENERATION

The new course runs into the storms of history; however, neither the Great Depression nor World War II halts Mario’s path as he guided the company into its golden age. A seasoned businessman, Mario understood that success required careful strategy. Acting on this insight, the winery moved its headquarters to a new location, right in front of the Poggibonsi train station. From there, Piccini wines were transported along the railroad tracks, reaching the farthest corners of the globe.

At the same time, Mario strengthened the brand’s image with a forward-thinking communication campaign, opening the door to international markets. A symbol of this new identity was the “Chianti Preferito.”

New Horizons

THIRD GENERATION

In 1963, Mario passed the leadership to his son Pierangiolo. At just 29 years old, Pierangiolo found himself at the helm of a major company. Under his leadership, the winery underwent a transformation, moving from Poggibonsi to Castellina in Chianti. Pierangiolo also invested in some of Tuscany’s most renowned wine regions: Fattoria di Valiano in Chianti Classico, and Tenuta Moraia in the Tuscan Maremma, writing the first chapters of the “Generazione Vigneti” project, aimed at celebrating Italy’s most esteemed wine-growing areas.

Orange revolution

FOURTH GENERATION

In 2004, Mario took over from his father Pierangiolo, determined to reshape the company. Not long after, he launched Piccini’s most iconic house label: Chianti Arancio. At the same time, Mario expanded the company’s horizons, acquiring two volcanic estates: Regio Cantina in Basilicata and Torre Mora at the foot of Mount Etna. Nevertheless, the Piccini family remained connected to its Tuscan roots, completing the acquisition of the historic Chianti Geografico estate in 2018. Anticipating market trends and bottling modernity became key elements of the company’s strategy. This approach led to the creation of new lines that would define the brand’s history: Memoro and Collezione Oro.

In 2020, Piccini opened its new headquarters in Casole d’Elsa, setting the stage for new successes.

Cultivating the future

FIFTH GENERATION

Mario’s children – Ginevra, Benedetta, and Michelangelo – brought fresh ideas and innovative approaches, guiding the winery into the third millennium. In 2022, the company celebrated its 140th anniversary with a new acquisition: the Porta Rossa winery in the Langhe region joined the Piccini 1882 Group. The following year, the lands of Prosecco were also added to the Piccini 1882 family, further enhancing the company’s national presence.

Energy and dynamism flow through every bottle the winery produces, driven by the ambition to carry the flag of Italian wine across the globe.
