The flagship of Geografico, the “Contessa di Radda” line boasts an ancient and glorious tradition. Its name celebrates the thousand-year history of Chianti Classico, paying homage to the illustrious Willa of Tuscany. A strong and courageous woman, Willa held the helm of Tuscany during the difficult years of the 10th century, along with her son Ugo, remembered by Dante in the Divine Comedy as the “Great Baron.” <\/p>

In 968, Hugh wrote a fundamental page of Tuscan history, deciding to move the political capital of the region from Lucca to Florence, marking the rise of the city on the banks of the Arno. To seal her son’s move, Willa founded the Badia Fiorentina, the oldest Benedictine monastery in Florence, in 978, endowing the city with a religious and cultural center of absolute prominence. To express her munificence, the noblewoman donated to the monastery some territories in Chianti, including Radda, forging the legend of the “Countess of Radda.” <\/p>

Every drop of this precious selection of wines recalls the deep connection with the territory, preserving the ancient winemaking tradition jealously handed down by local vintners. Only the best grapes can aspire to the prestigious label of “Contessa di Radda,” which has accompanied the history of Geografico since 1978, the year of its historic first harvest, raising the banner of the Chianti Classico lands.
